In construction projects, construction material is usually used. A material that serves as a load-bearing building and can be used as wall coverings, floors, roof panels, etc. This material is an Osb board. In this article, we mainly understand the production of the OSB board and the waterproof effect of the OSB board.
What is Oriented strand Board？
Oriented strand board is a kind of particleboard, which is a man-made board made of a three-layer pavement structure that is arranged longitudinally in the direction of upper and lower shaving fibers and arranged horizontally with the middle core layer of shaving fibers. The common particle board in daily life is a single layer of evenly spread particle board and pressed.
1. Cut logs into chips
2. The ring chipper processes the wood chips into wood bundles, and the third step is drying. The wood chips and wood bundles are dried by a drum dryer.
3. Sorting/screening The shavings or wood bundles must be divided into different grades according to the size to form a layered structure of the boards.
During the gluing process, a precise dose of adhesive is added and evenly distributed into the wood bundle,
The wood bundle reaches the diffuser head through the peeling roller and the diffuser roller. The surface layers are aligned in the manufacturing direction, and the intermediate layers are arranged at right angles. Always monitor the weight of the diffusion mat material and the ratio of the surface layer to the middle layer with a balance.
6. Liquid application
Water, release agent, and other additives can be sprayed before pressing.
In the pressing equipment, the glue is cured under the action of pressure and temperature, and then the equipment presses the mat material to a specified thickness.
After pressing, first, trim each side of the board. (Pre-formed)
9. Cooling Before further processing, the plates must be cooled by a star cooler until they reach the storage temperature.
The adjustment of the original board is a surface finishing procedure and an important factor in ensuring the quality of the board during the production process.
Through the sawing or size adjustment production line, the finished original board is cut into a smaller retail form.
12. Transport, storage, and packaging
After talking about the production process of the OSB board, let's understand the waterproof performance of the OSB board.
As a general rule, most OSB is water-resistant. Due to their construction process using wood strands, resins and wax they come fairly water-resistant.
However, if you're looking for a truly waterproof OSB you need to make sure it is stamped stating so.
This will mean that your OSB has been specially treated to be waterproof and as such is good to go.
However, each time an oriented strand board is cut it creates an area where moisture or water could be absorbed.
So you may want to think about adding a further waterproof sealant to any OSBs you buy. Especially ones which you plan on using for exterior jobs.
As if an OSB does become too wet it is likely to swell (usually at the sides). If it does swell this can cause issues with the construction
So if you are going to use oriented strand boards where they might be in regular contact with the moisture we advise that you add waterproof sealant such as: (name of sealant).
Hope it is of help to you
